An extraordinary concert in front of the melting furnace |
|
The Farbglashuette Lauscha enriched the town’s cultural life with a completely extraordinary concert in December 2006. The Jena Jubilee Singers, Gospel choir from Friedrich-Schiller-University traveled to Lauscha and gave a Christmas concert right in front of the melting furnace on the third weekend of Advent.

Planning the concert in the Farbglashuette was not entirely simple, because when one plans a concert for an unusual environment, one searches out an extraordinary presentation. The Jena Jubilee Singers were very enthusiastic about performing in such an unusual environment, and the organizers of the Farbglashuette were pleased and honored that an internationally well known and celebrated choir would try something new and different, when they normally only perform in large churches.
For almost 20 years the Jena Jubilee Singers have presented the spiritual music of the African American population: Gospels, Spirituals and Jubilees. Here in Lauscha, they presented a Christmas concert with songs that are practically unknown in Germany, but well-known old favourites to the North American ear. The 30 member choir started their presentation quietly and reflectively, and then gradually grew in power throughout the dynamic 90 minute presentation.
The initial thought that perhaps there would not be enough people in Lauscha interested in this sort of music proved to be completely unfounded. Almost 100 visitors showed up to the Farbglashuette, and every seat was full of people who appreciated this impressive concert. Based on this success, it is probable that 2007 will mean more concerts for the Farbglashuette.
