Europa Cup race in Altenberg, December 14, 2008
Oliver Harrass followed by Maximillian Arndt, 0.26 seconds later, celebrated a double victory in the season’s fourth EC race in Altenberg. Third was Alexey Gorlachev from Russia.13 teams started and Oliver’s team (GER1) had the top time in both his runs, pushing his sled to it’s first victory of the season.
Europa Cup race in Winterberg – December 7, 2008
The first of two Europa Cup 4-crew bobsled races in Winterberg, was definitively decided in the first run: Dimitry Abromovitch of Russia placed first with 55.52 seconds ahead of Manuel Machata, and the Swiss competitor Gregor Baumann. Oliver Harrass placed fourth in the first run. In the second run, nothing changed for Dimitry Abromovitch, who placed first again with 55.95 and secured his season’s fourth gold medal of the season, ahead of Manuel Machata from Germany. Third place on the podium was secured by Thomas Florschütz also from Germany, and Oliver Harrass’ team placed fifth overall. Altogether, 23 teams started.
Oliver Harrass is German Junior Champion
In sunshine, warm breezes and spring like temperatures at Königssee in Bavaria, Stefanie Szzurek (Oberhof) and Benjamin Schmid (Königssee) win the German Junior Championship. In the 4-crew Bobsled competition on Sunday, the team with the pilot Oliver Harrass (Oberhof) won the German Championship title ahead of the teams of Machata (Königssee) and Schmid (Königssee). The teams Harrass, Machata, Schmid as well as Szczurek are nominated as a result of these competitions to attend the junior world championship taking place in January in Königssee.
1. German Championship in Winterberg
With predictable results the German Bobsled Championships ended with two races this weekend in Winterberg. Thomas Florschütz (1:52,36 Min) with his pusher Marc Kühne defended their title from last year against the duo from Winterberg, Karl Angerer/Gregor Bermbach (1:54,45 Min.) as well as the German Bobsledding Federation garrison Andre Lange with Kevin Kuske (1:54.47 min) In the large sled, the 35-year-old Andre Lange, won the day for BSR Rennsteig Oberhof with two track records on the 1600 meter ice canal in Winterberg, 0.25 seconds before Karl Angerer. The team of Maximilan Arndt took fourth place, and Team Oliver Harrass took fifth place. The teams of Machata, Arndt and Harrass will represent the German Bobsledding Federation in the Europa Cup.
