| Why is K-glass better? |
|
We can not analyse every single common batch types, but we have analysed Glasma batch nr. 33 and Phillips 4001. Compared to Phillips we produce 30% less CO2, compared to Glasma we produce 50% less Nitrates (which create climate damaging gas N20), no chlorides and 40% less sulphur, which we do not release at all into the environment because they are caught in our filters. Also melting glass in a large furnace like ours uses a minimum amount of energy compared to small units. K-glass is produced with an overall energy requirement of 5 kw/h per kilo glass.
Make the calculation yourself by dividing the amount of energy you use yearly by the amount of glass you use. How much energy do you now use? The amount of energy you will save by using K-glass depends very much on your equipment and also the products you are making. We have seen savings from 5 to 30% in our clients’ studios. Even by using 50% K-glass added to your batch you will save energy. Since 2001, we have made 1000 tons of K-glass. Compared to Phillips 4001 (the studio glass batch used many places), together with our clients, we have kept an overall of 8o tons of CO2 from going into the environment.
