A a centuries old traditional handwork |
|
Have a look over the shoulders of our glassmaker´s and glassblower´s at their centuries old traditional work. Every thing is still made by hand here.

Our glassmaker follows a centuries old tradition. He uses his glassmaker´s blowpipe to gather glass that is 1,200 degrees Celsius hot from the melting furnace. His blowpipe is 1.50 meters long and is equipped with a small mouthpiece. The glassmaker gathers a small amount on his blowpipe, and then makes a small bubble. Then he gathers more and more layers, until the large gather weighs up to 15 kilograms.
Experience how rods and tubes are created out of glowing glass lumps or see how vases are made, or drinking vessels, or even the beloved garden gazing balls.
Our glassblowers make countless artistic useful objects and also purely decorative objects out of our colored rods and tubes. Working glass in front of a torch started in the mid-1800’s with a small oil lamp with a bellows attached to increase the heat. The soft glass could then be formed into almost anything. Naturally, the oil lamp was eventually replaced by a gas burner, but the name was preserved and today, the craft of working in front of a torch is still referred to as lampworking.
