Competition for Bead makers
During the weekend visitors can expect an impressive program. Naturally, central to the bead design days are the artisans, who create their works of art in front of the flaming torch. As well, for the Bead Design Days, the Farbglashuette will hold a bead competition under the theme of, “Fairytales and Fairytale Magic Worlds”. The visitors of the Bead Design Days will select the winning bead of the competition in a public ballot. Form for to participate and register in the competition as a participant/demonstrator during the Bead Design Days. Peter Kuchinke demonstrates historical techniquesDirect in the hutte, interested guests and professional bead makers can experience a real highlight – for the first time before the public, very special glass rods will be created by Glass-making Master, Peter Kuchinke, trained in Småland, Sweden and Murano, Italy. With Peter’s over 25 years of experience making high quality glass rods, he will make rods in the Filigrana, Murrini, and Zanfiro Techniques. Guests can watch these historical techniques, that out of all of Europe, can only still be seen in Murano, or in Lauscha. As the rods are produced, the bead designing public can try the rods on the spot and also purchase the rods if they wish, to take home. Naturally, Lauscha glassblowers will introduce you to their historic traditions. In addition to seeing 155 years of living history and the art of hand pulled rods in the hutte, visitors can also see a display of historic Lauscha beads and tools. Glassblower Peter Müller Phillip Sohn, whose father was a fourth generation Lauscha resident and a pearl maker, will open his family’s treasure trunk, and demonstrate historical bead-making techniques, using an antique bead press passed down from his grandfather. Glass Artists Live Daniela Fröhlich will show how an animal bead is created and Katrin Pfeifer will create beautiful jewelry out of glass. And old friend of Farbglashuette, Ana Maria Di Luca, bead artist and seller from Solingen will demonstrate a modern bead press. Well known by many bead artists, Ms. Di Luca also brings with her many high quality bead making tools and supplies for sale. As well, we are joined again this year by Marga and Hermann Heinickel from Estenfeld near Würzburg, on Sunday in the Farbglashuette. Mrs. Heinickel is an artist who makes high quality fused glass jewelry, and Mr. Heinickel makes glass beads in front of the torch. Trying for the longest strand of beads ever… Of course we will have a program suitable for the whole family so that everyone can enjoy their visit to the Farbglashuette. Children and also adults, can assemble their own necklace or bracelet to take home with them. Thousands of colorful glass beads wait to be strung together by little and big hands alike. This year we have a large event for the public. All visitors, who come on Sunday into the Farbglashuette, are requested to wind a bead in front of the torch, with the help of our specialists. Naturally this is without cost to the guests. This bead is given an individual number, and will become a component of the longest individual hand-made string of beads of the world. Every participant receives a certificate to identify their bead. And at every future event at the Farbglashuette, this string of beads will be added to in the coming years and become longer and longer over time. Program for children on Sunday
So our younger visitors won’t be bored, there will be a special children’s program on Sunday. On Sunday children can handcraft their own necklace or a bracelet and can take it home free of charge. There is also a painting contest for little artists. Then not with beads, but with marbles, the Sachsenbrunner Marble Club pays a visit to the Farbglashuette. The society busies itself on preserving the history of, and educating the public about marble games, and takes part in marble playing competitions throughout Europe. On the 23rd of August, the ‘Marblers’ come to the Farbglashuette in order to bring children and adults closer to the fascinating history and tradition of ‘marble sport’.
