The Farbglashuette Lauscha celebrated its 150th birthday in 2003. It was founded in 1853 by Elias Greiner Vetters Sohn and his son Septimius Greiner who established it, for the most part, to make marbles. Like most things in Lauscha, the hut got a nickname – after the co-founder, and people still refer to the it as the “Seppenhuette” even to this day.
A display in our visitor gallery as you reach the end of your guided tour, tells you about the last 150 years - the ups and downs of glass manufacturing throughout the years. Afterwards, you can stay to watch the glassmakers at their work or go and look at the glassblowers as they sit behind their “lamps”. |
